Use short voice bursts at a shared desk

At a shared desk, use brief spoken drafts for explanation and the keyboard for exact corrections. Confirm that quiet speaking fits the room before making it your default input method.

A useful desk pattern#

Read the selected task, decide on one change, record the change and review the draft. “Keep the chart; explain the assumptions underneath it” is easier to inspect than an uninterrupted five-minute monologue. If you need extended reasoning, move to a space where conversation is welcome.

Low volume does not automatically make speech unobtrusive. Ask a coworker at the neighboring seat whether the test interrupted their work. Assess that separately from the transcript: perfectly recognized words can still be distracting.

Use the two product layers#

The Mac software helps keep a spoken instruction attached to the intended Codex conversation. SPECS 01 is being developed to make soft speech easier to capture and reduce surrounding voice interference. Its intended contribution is the input signal; it is not a promise of inaudibility.

Choose a non-sensitive draft for a desk test. Compare omissions, intrusive background words and the number of repairs needed. If repeated attempts become more disruptive than typing, switch input method. Success means a usable, correctly delivered request within the shared space’s expectations, rather than merely an impressive dictation speed.
